Pack Kits with Lucky Duck Foundation
The Lucky Duck Food and Water Initiative has distributed over 1.4 million meals to San Diego’s unsheltered neighbors since May 2020. Volunteers help pack, sort, and load food and water for homeless outreach teams to distribute throughout San Diego County. Volunteers also sort and distribute items like face shields, masks, hygiene kits, EMPWR Coats, and clothing. Volunteers are critical to making the program happen, so please consider signing up! Volunteer bagging shifts take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00-3:00pm at the San Diego Rescue Mission Warehouse (212 East 26th Street, National City, CA 91950). Note: though it is most helpful if you can volunteer for 3 hours, you do not need to sign up for all 3 hours, you can volunteer in 1-hour increments. Join Big Sunday for our Accessible Wednesday at 10am Event
We'd love to have you join us for our newly restarted weekly Accessible Wednesday morning program, AW@10! These special events are held from 10:00am – 11:30am each Wednesday where we do fun activities to help local nonprofits. And what’s extra special about these Wednesday events? Our guests of honor are wonderful and fun volunteers with some developmental challenges who want to give back and help others, in groups and as individuals. The accessible activities we'll do on Wednesdays are specifically designed with these guests in mind, so that everyone can participate and have fun volunteering - because we believe very strongly that absolutely everyone has something to give. Volunteer at Project Angel Food
Volunteers help to accomplish Project Angel Food’s mission in a variety of ways. Even one day, or a few hours, of volunteering can make a world of difference to the community's most vulnerable neighbors. Since 1989, Project Angel Food has delivered over 13 million meals to more than 22,000 critically ill people. Their volunteers not only help with preparing meals and delivering them, and also folding and stuffing letters, beading bracelets, and calling clients to see how they’re doing. Volunteers can sign up on their own, with a group of friends, family or co-workers. They can spend one day, or many years, in service to our community. We have some volunteers who started in high school or college and have now been with us for 10, 15 and even 20 years, and are bringing their children with them now. Create Hygiene Kits for Project Ropa
Help create hygiene kits for Project Ropa to directly distribute to people experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area. This is a great activity for children to get involved with. They are looking for assistance creating hygiene kits to distribute to our unhoused neighbors. This can be done remotely by putting together items in a ziploc bag, tote bag or reusable grocery bag. Please note: Items for the hygiene kits will not be provided by them. They recommend reaching out to your network of friends and family to source the items. All items can be travel-size or full-size. Big Sunday's annual Field Trip Friday's are back and ready to hit you with a summer of fun! We invite lots of people of all ages, from all walks of life, for a 2-hour harbor cruise. Guests include individuals, families, corporate groups, faith groups. Plus nice folks from group homes, hospitals, shelters – some of whom have never been on a boat before!
All participants are asked just one thing: to meet at least one new person. Then, we all just enjoy each other’s company. Along the way we'll enjoy coffee, juice, and awesome snacks while watching the sea lions take in some sun.
Sign up below for the cruise leaving from Shoreline Village in Long Beach: Friday July 21st. This cruise leaves promptly at 10 am and returns at 12 pm. Please sure to be there before 10am! We would hate for you to miss the cruise! (And everyone’s welcome!)
