Enjoy the Summer by Giving Back to Nature with Mountain Restoration Trust

Help remove crayfish from your creeks and streams with Mountain Restoration Trust! Crayfish are a non-native species to California, and they're considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species, reduce water quality, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. They need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. MRT staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. Volunteers 12 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian's signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. Registration is free, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

Feed the Soul While Helping Feed the Hungry with LA Food Bank

Volunteers are needed to help sort, inspect, and repackage donated food items from local food drives. Help the LA Food Bank help those in need by donating your time to fight hunger in our community. Support AHEAD with Horses’ Annual Fundraiser

AHEAD With Horses will be preparing for our Annual Fundraiser on June 8th. They have a number of shade awnings that need to be put together and around 200 bales of straw that need to be moved around the property to create seating and barriers. Volunteers will be doing manual labor outside, so please come prepared with sunscreen and plenty of water. Must wear closed toe shoes and long pants.

"Safe Place for Youth (SPY) provides life-saving support to homeless and at-risk youth ages 12-25 in West Los Angeles. Join SPY on Sunday, June 2, 2019 for their 4th Annual Gala: Thrive! Join Tree People for their Park Work Day

Come to Tree People's beautiful 45-acre headquarters atop Mulholland Dr. where hikers, bikers and school children enjoy the trails, trees and views in one of L.A.'s most loved parks. Help keep the park looking great by maintaining the trails, removing invasive plants, regrading slopes to protect them from erosion, and working in their seedling nursery. This is a physically demanding project. This project will occur rain or shine. Volunteers for this project must be at least 14 years of age.

Join Mountains Restoration Trust to help restore native upland and riparian habitats at Headwaters Corner right off of Mulholland Highway. Volunteers will be collecting seed from native plants around the site. They will also participate in weeding invasive plants to restore our native habitat and prevent competition with natives. Please arrive by 8:45am in the parking lot off of Mulholland Highway. Please bring a hat, water, snack, and sturdy shoes. Gloves and tools provided. Receive community service credit. Great Fun for Kids and Families! Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form. Participate in AHEAD with Horses’ Children’s Demonstation and Fun Day

Every June, AHEAD With Horses Inc. holds their Annual Children's Demonstration and Fun Day. This is a day when all of the children in their program can showcase all of the wonders they have accomplished while riding a horse and have their friends and family cheer them on as they receive their Outstanding Achievement Awards. These accomplishments can range from now being able to lift their head, sit, use their hands and arms, move legs, stand, walk, speak or other communication, focus, follow directions, etc. These might seem like simple tasks to you, but to these children and their families, they can be life changing! Tickets are $14 adults, $7 children, under 3 free Ticket price includes BBQ lunch and a free toy for the kids. The event will include a demonstration by the AHEAD With Horses students, BBQ, Silent Auction, games, arts & crafts, a massage booth, and more! All proceeds benefit AHEAD With Horses, a non-profit developmental therapeutic riding program for children with disabilities.

Pitch in at Alexandria House’s Summer Camp

The Alexandria House Summer Camp is held every summer (June to August) at Alexandria House for 30 school-aged kids (K-5th grade). The kids go on field trips and participate in arts, sports, and water activities. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate and prep activities and are also welcome to lead their own programs. If you have ideas for camp, please send them to their camp coordinator at stephanie@alexandriahouse.org. All new Alexandria House volunteers are asked to go through an orientation before volunteering. Volunteers age: at least of high school age. There's no time commitment, you can volunteer for one day or for the whole summer. The volunteer shifts are 9am-noon and 1-4pm. Please consider donating so they can fund their many programs, including summer camp.

Sort Food with AIDS Project L.A.

Prepare nutritious grocery bags for those living with HIV/AIDS. APLA Health and Wellnes is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease, reducing the incidence of HIV infection, and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy. Volunteers help prepare grocery and nutrition bags for distribution through the Necessities of Life Program, which provides food and other basic necessities to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. APLA policy prohibits the following: tank tops, sleeveless shirts, sandals, or open-toe shoes. Age Minimum (with Adult): 16+, Minimum Age:18+.
