Provide Sleeping Bag Coats to Unsheltered Homeless San Diegans with Lucky Duck Foundation
While Lucky Duck Foundation call on regional elected officials to add more immediately available beds, the need to provide protection and warmth from the elements is critical. As such, the Lucky Duck Foundation has committed to distributing several thousand more Empowerment Plan winter coats during the fall and winter of 2022. This is in addition to distributing more than 5,000 coats since 2020. The first 100 coats were distributed on World Homeless Day (10/10) in partnership with the Empowerment Plan, who distributed 100 coats across 10 different cities on 10/10. These weather-resistant coats are manufactured by homeless parents and transform into sleeping bags to provide reprieve and protection from the cold pavement. Coats will be distributed through their food and water initiative, which has provided more than 1,500,000 meals to date and reaches approximately 1,000 people per day. Lucky Duck Foundation partnered with LNDRY, a premier laundry service in San Diego, to pick up your gently used clothes donation (for free!) to help homeless employment and education-seekers look and feel their best! Since clean, professional attire is an important step in boosting the confidence of people experiencing homelessness, they want to make donating your clothes as easy and seamless as possible. As a complimentary service, LNDRY will pick up clothing donations from your home or place of business, wash and deliver them to one of LDF’s employment and job training partners. Big Sunday's annual Field Trip Friday's are back and ready to hit you with a summer of fun! We invite lots of people of all ages, from all walks of life, for a 2-hour harbor cruise. Guests include individuals, families, corporate groups, faith groups. Plus nice folks from group homes, hospitals, shelters – some of whom have never been on a boat before!
All participants are asked just one thing: to meet at least one new person. Then, we all just enjoy each other’s company. Along the way we'll enjoy coffee, juice, and awesome snacks while watching the sea lions take in some sun.
Sign up below for the cruise leaving from Shoreline Village in Long Beach: Friday July 21st. This cruise leaves promptly at 10 am and returns at 12 pm. Please sure to be there before 10am! We would hate for you to miss the cruise! (And everyone’s welcome!)
