For nearly 100 years, Assistance League of Los Angeles has worked to improve the lives of underserved, foster and homeless children in our community. The League's Family Day of Service will be a unique opportunity for local families to give back to children in need. For this event they will be collecting a variety of scholastic goodies for children that include crayons, rulers, colored paper, spiral notebooks, pencils, erasers, wide-ruled notebook paper, colored pencils, glue sticks, index cards, educational workbooks and gift cards. On the day of the event, attendees will sort and pack all the supplies, make special handmade cards and enjoy light refreshment and entertainment. Support Adopt-a-Meal with the LA Mission

The Los Angeles Mission provides nearly 1,500 hot meals every day. You can provide meals and hope – every month – to hungry, homeless and hurting people here in Skid Row. When you Adopt-a-Meal, you commit to provide a specific meal – breakfast, lunch or dinner for hungry, homeless and hurting men, women and children who come to the Los Angeles Mission. The Adopt-a-Meal program allows volunteer groups to take charge of a meal as though it were their own event. The volunteers will prepare and serve the designated meal for approximately 500 Mission guests. The Adopt-a-Meal program allows more time to connect with students, friends and neighbors. Donate Much-Needed Hygiene, Food & Clothing Items for the LA Mission

Consider sponsoring a hygiene drive among your friends and associates to assist the Los Angeles Mission in meeting a huge need. Their “Friends and Neighbors” who come to them every day for a shower and clean clothing, do not have access to hygiene products and toiletries unless the Mission supplies them. Their current gift-in-kind needs are: personal care items, nail clippers, lip balm, deodorant/antiperspirant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, mouthwash, razors, body wash, diapers, conditioner, hair gel/grease, hair brushes, formula, and shampoo. Help Out at The House of Yahweh’s Thrift Shop

The House of Yahweh has a small but dedicated full time staff, whose commitment goes beyond any average job description. Another invaluable asset to their ministry are VOLUNTEERS. They have a large group of volunteers, of all ages, who come and help them prepare and distribute food boxes, as well as working in their thrift shops. Additionally volunteers work special projects and help raise monies and food. The House of Yahweh needs: Volunteers to help pack grocery boxes and bags. 2 hour shift, once a month on a Saturday. You will be doing furniture pick up and deliveries and moving heavy items in the Thrift Shop. Persons who would be comfortable pricing goods in their thrift shops. Persons with sewing machine experience to make simple curtains for the trailers. Persons to work in their home delivery food program. You are needed to deliver food once a week on the same day to at least 5 shut-in families located in the same area. Volunteers in both of the Artesia and Lawndale Thrift Shops.

Team Up with The Salvation Army Glendale’s Food Pantry to Help Serve Hundreds of Individuals and Families

The Salvation Army Glendale's Food Pantry program serves hundreds of individuals and families every month. They have recently transitioned into a 'marketplace' system, which gives their clients the independence to choose their own food options. In order to serve their community, they need volunteers to help maintain the pantry by spending a couple of hours each week performing one (or more) of the following tasks: 1. Sort incoming food donations by type. 2. Place sorted foods in the designated area. 3. Help restock the marketplace floor as needed. 4. Assist/interact with clients. Help The Salvation Army Burbank Corps Prepare Food Boxes

The Salvation Army Burbank Corps offers food boxes to individuals and families providing 3-5 days' worth of food. Volunteers are needed to provide a cheerful and helpful attitude to those requesting help. Consistent long term volunteers are desired; however one time volunteers are welcome also! Available shifts: Monday - Friday 10am-1pm: help serve our guests Monday - Friday 2pm-5pm: help get the food bank ready for the next day. Assist the L.A. First Church of the Nazarene’s Food Pantry with Bread Pick Up

The Helping Hands Food Pantry is in need for one or two volunteers to pick up bread from a nearby Vons. Volunteers would go to the church to pick up boxes for the bread and keys to open up the pantry. Using their own cars, volunteers would then drive to a local Vons (loading dock) and would receive the bread, load it onto their cars. When they arrive at the church, they can use carts to wheel in the bread to put inside the pantry's freezer for safe keeping. Volunteers would then lock up, put the pantry keys away and then continue about their day. The bread that volunteers will pick up will help to feed families in Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre throughout that week. Requirements & Commitment: Driver's License Needed. Must be at least 18. Orientation or Training 1hr and 30min. Drivers must also have proof of insurance and will fill out a volunteer application and waivers.

Bring your family and GET YOUR COLOR ON for a 5k through Pelona Vista Park that's a little on-road and a little off-road...nothing you can't handle. Plenty of color stations at every kilometer focusing on the colors of America. The starting line has great music to get you motivated for your WARM-UP and plenty more jams to motivate through your day. Waves start at 8am and go every few minutes. Take a BITE out of Hunger! Volunteers are needed at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help in assembling food packages for over 26,000 low income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County. The food packages consist of food items like canned fruit, canned vegetables, rice, cereal and other non-perishable food items.
