Support Veterans at The Salvation Army’s 2nd Annual National Donut Day Eating Championship

Help support Veterans and see history being made at The Salvation Army's 2nd Annual National Donut Day Eating Championship in front of the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Watch the best competitive eaters in the country vie to break the world record. Cheer on KRTH's own Gary Bryan and others in the local preliminary donut eating contest. And support The Salvation Army and its programs dedicated to helping Veterans throughout the Southland. They need volunteers to assist with unloading and loading stage equipment, stage setup, and clean-up. There will be some heavy lifting involved, so keep that in mind. Help Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California fill their Parent Food Pantry that is located inside the Loma Linda Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Unit. They are in need of microwavable dinners that can be stored at room temperature. (No Frozen Foods) For example, Cup of Noodles, Hormel Dinners, etc. Parent Food Pantry! This allows the parents to have a decent meal, without leaving their child's beside too long. They are in need of microwavable dinners that can be stored at room temperature and individual chips. Come Out to Support the Veterans of the Antelope Valley and Get Your Color On!

Bring your family and GET YOUR COLOR ON for a 5k through Pelona Vista Park that's a little on-road and a little off-road...nothing you can't handle. Plenty of color stations at every kilometer focusing on the colors of America. The starting line has great music to get you motivated for your WARM-UP and plenty more jams to motivate through your day. Waves start at 8am and go every few minutes. Suitable for all levels of walkers, runners and those in between of all ages. This is an un-timed event. Benefiting transitional housing, scholarships, financial assistance and PTSD counseling. On the 9th, nearly 550 guests will gather to honor the 20 Candidates who have spent 10 weeks competing for the title of Man/Woman of the Year by fundraising on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The Veterans Home of California will be hosting their Alzheimer's Association "The Longest Day." This is a world wide event all about love for those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Join MEND At Their Annual Head to Toes Event!

MEND needs your help! On August 29th, 250 third graders from Vaughn Next Century Learning Center will participate in MEND's 18th annual Head to Toes back-to-school themed event. Help Pack Backpacks for Create Now’s Arts Festival

Create Now is hosting an arts festival on August 4th from 10AM-1PM. The event is geared toward community agencies that serve high-risk youth, their clients and families. They also encourage the local community to attend. The kids will have the opportunity to perform a dance, song or sketch and receive a prize for their participation. There will be free refreshments, food, entertainment and each child will receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Volunteers are needed to help pack backpacks with school supplies. They are in need of school supplies and backpacks for 250+ children.

Help Out at Culver City Volunteer Program’s Annual CarFit Event

Volunteers will be outside and on their feet interacting with the public. They'll need volunteer assistance with check-in, traffic control and inspections (training is provided day-of). Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with older adults, taking instruction and giving direction. This event sells out every year and it will be busy the entire shift from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Snacks, beverages and a thank you gift are provided to volunteers. Service credit is provided for those needing it for school. CarFit is a nationwide program designed to help older drivers find out how well they currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions they can take to improve their fit, and to promote conversations about driver safety and community mobility.
