Share Your Special Talents and Help AHEAD With Horses Beautify its New Property
AHEAD With Horses is a non-profit that offers developmental therapeutic programs for children with all types of disabilities in the Los Angeles area. 2018 is their 50th anniversary and they are celebrating being able to move into a new property, that means each kid will be able decorate their rooms and there will be more space for their therapy horses. They want this space to be as beautiful, safe and inviting as possible. If you, or someone you know, have any special skills, like plumbing, electrician, construction, welding, landscaping, moving truck, etc. Please let them know if you would be willing to donate your services. Free Arts uses art to restore hope, resiliency, and self-esteem in children in Los Angeles ages 5-18 who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness. They serve more than 22,000 children in Los Angeles each year via nearly 200 adult volunteer mentors. This summer, St. Francis Center will send 80 youth to overnight, weeklong camp! They are in need of items for their summer-camp kits and their back-to-school event. For their summer-camp kits, they are in need of the following items: sunscreen, bug spray, unflavored lip balm, flashlight/batteries, water bottle, sleeping bag, duffel bag, beach towel. For their back-to-school event, they are in need of the following items: backpacks, folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, rulers, glue/gluesticks, scissors. They are in need of microwavable dinners that can be stored at room temperature. (No Frozen Foods) For example, Cup of Noodles, Hormel Dinners, etc. Parent Food Pantry! Become a Summer Camp Junior Counselor for the Children’s Lifesaving Founation
CAMP4ALL SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM would love for you or your high school teen to volunteer as “Junior” Counselors with the CLF this summer at a surf and/or overnight camp! If yes, let them know, and they will send you their easy-breezy Volunteer Form! This program will serve hundreds of low-income, at-risk and homeless youth and families coming from over a dozen different agencies. Volunteering with this program proves to be the positive experience of a lifetime, and volunteer hours can also be utilized toward community service fulfillment at a high school level. The CLF is looking for more wonderful volunteers for the Camp4All Beach & Surf Camps for homeless and at-risk youth & families in Los Angeles, starting at the end of June…and if Fridays in July work for you, let them know and they will work it out with you too! The Salvation Army's Silvercrest in Lake View Terrace, CA is looking for volunteers leaders who like interacting with seniors and can lead various activities such as arts and crafts or group excercise. And if you don't have a craft or activity, thats ok! Why not come by to lead a game of bingo? Let them know what you want to do and they are open to discussing your ideas! They are also in need of volunteers who can be translators or teach ESL. The most common language is Spanish. Looking for people who are available to come in either Monday or Tuesday for 1-2 hours sometime between 9am-4pm. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. The Salvation Army Weingart Center in Hollywood, CA is looking for volunteers to lead group exercise classes (yoga, zumba, aerobics, etc). Available class times are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays 10am-1pm for Seniors Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 5pm-7pm for Adults If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity please contact Amanda Soto (Amanda.Soto@usw.salvationarmy.org) with experience and availability. The Salvation Army Weingart Youth Center has become a safe haven for boys and girls, many of whom come from single-parent households, and live in low-income areas which make them vulnerable to juvenile crime. The Center provides for their physical and educational needs through a number of enrichment activities, including after school youth programs, computer instruction, sports, arts & crafts and homework assistance. Adults and seniors are also served on a limited basis with low-impact aerobics and work-related computer instruction.

Assist Kidsave at their 20th Anniversary Miracles Gala
Kidsave is looking for awesome on-site volunteers to help with a variety of day-of tasks. This will be for their 20th Anniversary Miracles Gala at Avalon Hollywood + Bardot. They will be having a dinner, live and silent auction, and dancing. Volunteer opportunities available are: -Event Set-Up (arrival 2:00PM) -- help with setting up the tables, floral decorations, and auction item displays. This shift would be for 3-4 hours. -Event Registration (arrival 4:30PM) -- help with checking in guests using on-line mobile bidding software (BidPal) and making sure guests are greeted with a smile and bid paddle ;) -Greeters and Table Seaters (arrival 5:00PM) -- help with flow by making sure guests know where they are seated and are able to properly find their seat; be a smiling face as they arrive -Auction Check-Out (arrival 7:00PM) -- help get auction items set-up for check-out in Bardot; help with getting all items to guests (this will be a part for those who are interested in staying for dancing!!) Help Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in Assembling Food Packages for over 26,000 Folks
Take a BITE out of Hunger! Volunteers are needed at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help in assembling food packages for over 26,000 low income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County. The food packages consist of food items like canned fruit, canned vegetables, rice, cereal and other non-perishable food items. By giving just a little of our time, we can make a big difference in our community. Must be at least 14 (sorry, no exception min age is 14) 3 hours All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes.
Donate Your Time and/or Money for AHEAD With Horses’s Annual Children’s Demonstation and Fun Day
Every June, AHEAD With Horses Inc. holds their Annual Children’s Demonstration and Fun Day. This is a day when all of the children in their program can showcase all of the wonders they have accomplished while riding a horse and have their friends and family cheer them on as they receive their Outstanding Achievement Awards. All money raised will go towards their program and providing developmental therapeutic riding sessions to disabled children. They are looking for donations for their Silent Auction that will be going on at the event. They can also use donations of bottled water, soda cans, napkins, individual bags of chips, etc. for their BBQ lunch. All donations, in kind and direct donations of money, are greatly appreciated. They will need lots of volunteers to help with set up, clean up, running the game booths and arts & crafts, helping with the silent auction, helping with the bbq, parking, and many other activities. You can volunteer the whole day or just for a couple of hours. Volunteers who sign up do get a lunch!

Please join Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for their Outdoor Volunteer Day from 9am to 12pm at Alta Vicente Reserve! Volunteers will be working to remove invasive weeds which degrade important wildlife habitat and will be replacing them with native, drought tolerant plants! Please meet at the Alta Vicente trailhead next to St Paul's Lutheran Church at 31290 Palos Verdes Dr W, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Please do not park in the church parking lot. Park on the street. Extra parking can be found in Golden Cove Shopping Center. Volunteers will be working outdoors, so please wear closed-toed shoes, sun protection and be sure to bring drinking water and a snack. A reusable water bottle is recommended. Join Reading for Kids for their Reading Clubs
Reading to Kids organizes monthly reading clubs on the second Saturday of every month at eight downtown Los Angeles elementary schools. The reading clubs run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pairs of volunteer readers read aloud to small groups of students from the elementary school (typically between 4 and 6 children per group) in a fun environment. Literacy empowers and you have a chance to do your part! On Saturday, June 9th CCRC will be on hand to receive your book donations from 10 am – 1 pm at their Headquarters location! If you’re looking to clear up space and give the gift of reading, they will happily accept new, or gently used, children’s books (up to age 13). All books received will be distributed back to the children in CCRC's San Fernando Valley community’s children.
