Help Faciliate and Prep Activities for the Kids at Alexandria House’s Summer Camp

The Alexandria House Summer Camp is held every summer (June to August) at Alexandria House for 30 school-aged kids (K-5th grade). The kids go on field trips and participate in arts, sports, and water activities. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate and prep activities and are also welcome to lead their own programs. If you have ideas for camp, please send them to their camp coordinator at stephanie@alexandriahouse.org. All new Alexandria House volunteers are asked to go through an orientation before volunteering. Volunteers age: at least of high school age. There’s no time commitment, you can volunteer for one day or for the whole summer. The volunteer shifts are 9am-noon and 1-4pm. Please consider donating so they can fund their many programs, including summer camp.

Lend a Hand at Big Sunday’s Monday Morning at 10am

Here’s a way to help every week throughout the summer! Each Monday morning at 10 am, we host a different, fun, hands-on service project at Big Sunday headquarters called MM@10 (Monday Mornings at 10). Join the World’s Largest Street Painting Festival in Collaboration with Light Bringer Project

Join the world’s largest street painting festival with over 600 artists! Free and open to the public this Father’s Day weekend marks the 26th Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival at The Paseo. Over 600 skilled chalk artists from all over the world will come together to celebrate the unique art form. The festival offers visitors an opportunity to experience art on Paseo Colorado’s famous plaza for free. The Pasadena Chalk Festival places over 25,000 sticks of pastel chalks in the hands of hundreds of Madonnari (Italian for street painter) to spend the weekend creating spectacular murals on concrete canvases throughout the shopping plaza that stretches over three city blocks. Many artistic styles are represented in the Pasadena Chalk Festival: classical, contemporary, whimsical, socially relevant. Teams and Individual artists represent schools, creative companies, cultural organizations and artistic families.

Sprinkle Joy by Face Painting at the Million World Challenge Ceremony

Every year Families in Schools encourage students to read MILLIONS of words outside the classroom through the Million Word Challenge. Now that the Million Word Challenge has ended, schools, students and families will be recognized at the Million Word Challenge culmination ceremony on June 17th at the Central Library in Downtown Los Angeles. Face Painting volunteers are needed to interact with families and sprinkle joy in the day's celebrations. Volunteer hours are 12:30pm-3:30pm Age: Must be at least 16

Support PATH- San Diego as They Invite You for The Art of Making A Home Event

This spring, PATH will honor five years of collaborating to create housing solutions in Downtown San Diego. They invite you to join them for The Art of Making it Home – an interactive, experiential celebration of home through art, music, and film. This unique event will take place on the terrace at WeWork B Street, where attendees will experience a wide variety of exciting activations, all centered around the meaning of home. The event will feature exclusive performances, silent auctions, door prizes, and a wide variety of food and drink. They will also be honoring California Assemblymember Todd Gloria, and Affirmed Housing for their innovative partnership and support of PATH San Diego.

Self Help Graphics & Art's Annual Print Fair & Exhibition is a highly anticipated one-day only opportunity for collectors and art lovers to acquire new, limited edition, fine art prints created by Self Help Graphics & Art between 2017-2018! Volunteers are needed to assist with print inventory, handling of prints, and sales. Volunteers will be given a Self Help Graphics' volunteer t-shirt. Help Donate Much Needed Essentials for The Academy Projects Summer Camp

Camp Xavier is a week long day camp for 40 3rd-8th grade foster youth on the campus of USC from 9am-5am. 20 of the older youth will then attend a week up in the San Bernardino Mountains enjoying the quinessential summer camp experience- swimming, hiking, sailing, arts and crafts, campfires and much more. They need to feed 40 foster youth breakfast, lunch and a snack for 5 days (and would love to send them home with something too). They also need art supplies and general supplies (first aid kits, plates, napkins, water, paper, pens) They would love to have t-shirts made or rubber wrist bands- somthing to identify their kids (there are many camps of the campus of USC at the dame time. They will be taking their kids to the museam because they dont have their space on Tuesday and would love to get them IMAX tickets (40 of them). Books of all reading levels. Also, please consider sponsoring a 7 day camp experience for an older youth. It costs only $300 (all costs including bus trips, foods, activites, life changing experiences and life long friends.

Join L.A. Kitchen Transform Reclaimed Fruits and Vegetables into Healthy Meals

L.A. kitchen invites young children and their families to give back and have fun! Kids and adults can volunteer to transform reclaimed fruits and vegetables into healthy meals that are distributed to homeless shelters, after-school programs and senior sites. All kitchen activities are kid and adult proof. Each volunteer or family is asked to make a small donation, that allows the organization to offer activities like Tater Tats (fruit & veggie-themed temporary tattoos), arts and crafts using “ugly” veggies, and more! Adults are required to participate and must stay with their child(ren) through out the morning. Due to the nature of the activity, they are only able to host children ages 7 and up. Piece by Piece is organizing their space and are in need of helping hands! They need help sorting donations of glass and tile, and sprucing up the garden space and the mosaic mural. Their mission is to provide low-income and formerly homeless people free mosaic art workshops using recycled materials to develop marketable skills, self-confidence, earned income and an improved quality of life. Please come dressed for a mess and wear close-toed shoes. Volunteers will be moving items, sweeping, sorting. There will also be opportunities to do some work in the garden space. Entrance off of 51st Street. Activity meet up is in community space/patio. Street parking available 10am and after (street sweeping on Fridays until 10am).

Team Up with Big Sunday for a Special Art Project to Empower Youth

Not every kid has access to the arts. The aim of this special Big Sunday's Art Project is to bring the arts and expression to kids who might need it the most, to kids who are homeless and may have nothing else to turn to and who can benefit from art as therapy. A. Need 1-5 volunteers to go around and talk to students about their projects. Monetary donations are encouraged, and will go directly towards buying art supplies. Help the Alcoholism Center For Women Install Commemorative Bricks

This ribbon cutting event will include a short inspirational program, light food and tours of their facilities. Volunteers are need to help set up, clean up and greet the guests. They are selling commemorative bricks to install in front of their residential treatment center which is a historical turn of the century building and a designated Los Angeles City historical monument. 4x 8 inch bricks are $150 and 8 x8 inch bricks are $225. Join L.A. Goal for their annual benefit where 100% if the proceeds will benefit them! There will be great food and drink, live music and a silent auction. L.A. GOAL provides opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to increase their independence and employability through educational, vocational and recreational programs. L.A. Join Safe Place for Youth for their Art Show at Bergamot Station

Please join Safe Place for Youth (YPI) on Tuesday, August 28th for an art and music showcase organized by and featuring work from SPY members! Thanks to the Craig Krull Gallery, the show will be held at Bergamot Station with a special opening reception from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Live music all day and art and jewelry for sale.
