Lead, Mentor, and Grow at Pasadena Educational Foundation

"High school and college students can explore career paths, learn new skills, have fun, and share their talents by volunteering in a summer class that interests them. You will support teachers and mentor younger students by sharing your interests in topics such as Space Engineering, Sports, Rock Band, Spanish, Acting, Art Studio, Chess, Spanish, Robotics, Mandarin, Yoga, and more! Volunteers need to choose 3 to 5 weeks of service between June 10- July 11 Monday - Thursday (No Friday classes; No class July 4) 8:50 am - 1:30 pm. Pitch in at Alexandria House’s Summer Camp

The Alexandria House Summer Camp is held every summer (June to August) at Alexandria House for 30 school-aged kids (K-5th grade). The kids go on field trips and participate in arts, sports, and water activities. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate and prep activities and are also welcome to lead their own programs. If you have ideas for camp, please send them to their camp coordinator at stephanie@alexandriahouse.org. All new Alexandria House volunteers are asked to go through an orientation before volunteering. Volunteers age: at least of high school age. There's no time commitment, you can volunteer for one day or for the whole summer. The volunteer shifts are 9am-noon and 1-4pm. Please consider donating so they can fund their many programs, including summer camp.

Join HANDS4HOPE for their 2019 Academic Summer Camp

"Love helping kids? Join HANDS4HOPE LA during their 6 Week Academic Summer Camp. They help kids ages 8-14 get stronger in the subjects they are weak in. HANDS4HOPE LA does this by using fun hands-on project based workshops, led by staff and guest instructors as well as field trips. This kind of academic engagement helps to reduce summer learning loss. High School Teens (14 and older) are able to volunteer as Summer Camp Assistants and gain the community Service Hours required by their schools."

Join LATM Mentor Youth about College Readiness

Join LATM's Summer Leadership Camp, a unique, week-long, college readiness camp offered to at-risk middle school students throughout Los Angeles. Facilitators will work in pairs with a team of 15-20 middle school students to complete their college related curriculum (including financial aid, admissions, and completing A-G courses) and create a culminating project they can be proud of! Many of the students will be the first in their families to attend college, so being familiar with the process of applying and attending college is a plus. This is a full-time, one week commitment, and is a great opportunity for college students who are interested in pursuing a career in the education, child development, or social work fields. The commitment includes a training along with a week of camp facilitation. LATM staff is on hand to support all volunteers throughout their experience. Potential Facilitators Must Possess:Desire and ability to work with children, ability to be a positive member of a Facilitation team, ability to accept supervision and guidance (coaching, support), Good character, integrity and adaptability, Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control, Filling out our Camp Facilitator application completely, Attend a Training (Date TBD), Pass a background check.

Help Coach the Youth at Los Angeles Team Mentoring

"Los Angeles Team Mentoring (LATM) specifically helps at-risk youth (ages 11-14) coming from foster care, juvenile probation and low-income households where most family members have not graduated from high school or college. Leadership Camp is a free 5-day college/career readiness program for middle school students. Youth learn from a team of dedicated volunteers in a supportive environment. LATM youth finish camp more CONFIDENT about attending college and OPTIMISTIC about their career goals! Camp will be held at Richard Merkin Middle School from June 17th through June 21st. Mentor youth as a Summer Adventures Day Camp Counselor n Racho Los Cerritos

"High School Teens can rack up service learning hours being teen counselors at Summer Adventures Day Camp. The three 1-week sessions (July 22-Aug 9) are held in the Rancho's beautiful backyard and are lots of fun for the campers and counselors alike. Make a difference in the life of children affected by HIV/AIDS at Summer Camp!

Camp Laurel's Summer Camp is a seven-day camp program for children and youth ages 6-17 affected by HIV/AIDS. Summer Camp focuses on building the bonds that help to create a solid foundation on which the children can grow. The programming, while catering to the fragile physical and mental health of the children and youth, works to increase each participant's self-esteem while empowering them to develop the important life skills needed to build independent, successful and healthy lives. During the program, peer support groups are formed that last long after the camp program is finished. Campers experience exciting activities such as high ropes, low ropes, archery, cooking, photography and so much more! At least a high school graduate or equivalent and no less than 18 years of age. Summer Camp Volunteer Dates: June 29-July 6, 2019. Mandatory Volunteer Training: June 1 and June 2, 2019.

Summer Homework Tutors needed for Olive Crest

"We are looking for volunteers age 16 and older, to tutor elementary and middle school students during the summer. Tutors must possess a passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help students find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts. As a tutor, you must have patience, as many students you work with will have trouble understanding the content you are trying to help them with. You must also have a positive attitude and know ways to motivate students when they become frustrated by material they do not understand. Olive Crest homework help program is a free program to their clients and community. Duties: Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that are giving them trouble or that warrant further exploration. Review recent homework assignment and test scores, and work through problems or questions that the student did not answer correctly. A tutor may also help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance. Communicate with Family Resource Center Coordinator about trouble areas or any other issue that requires attention. TB-Test required for all volunteers. Volunteers over 18 will need a live scan, volunteers must be at least 16. Schedule: Olive Crest offers summer tutoring three times a week. Tuesday through Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Make a commitment of a minimum twice a week of the three months to the program."

Be a Volunteer Artist with Venice Arts

"Venice Arts is always interested in finding qualified artist-mentors who can assist with their free media arts workshops for low-income youth, ages 6-18. Help ignite youth's imagination, mentor their creativity, and expand their sense of possibility! Professionals and college students with background qualifications in the following may apply: photography, film/video, animation, multimedia and/or visual arts. Many of their mentors use volunteering as a way to gain teaching experience in their field. Others simply want to inspire young people to hone their craft. Volunteers will be trained by Venice Arts staff and given artist mentor assignments, in their Venice programs, and/or at offsite partner locations. They are currently looking for Volunteer Artist Mentors for our Summer Camp which will take place from July 1-26, 2019. Classes meet in our space Monday through Friday either from 9-12 or 2-5 depending on age grouop. They are flexible with schedules."
