We'd love to have you join us for our newly restarted weekly Accessible Wednesday morning program, AW@10! These special events are held from 10:00am – 11:30am each Wednesday where we do fun activities to help local nonprofits. And what’s extra special about these Wednesday events? Our guests of honor are wonderful and fun volunteers with some developmental challenges who want to give back and help others, in groups and as individuals. The accessible activities we'll do on Wednesdays are specifically designed with these guests in mind, so that everyone can participate and have fun volunteering - because we believe very strongly that absolutely everyone has something to give. Distribute Food with LA Food Bank
The Food Bank provides food to families and individuals through their Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) program, which distributes food off of our trucks at various locations throughout LA County. MFP distributions have transitioned to a “Drive-Through” format (and walk-up where feasible) to reduce personal interaction per Public Health guidelines. We'll be feeding approximately 1,000 families at this event. Distribute Food in Watts with LA Food Bank
The Food Bank provides food to families and individuals through their Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) program, which distributes food off of our trucks at various locations throughout LA County. Volunteer Responsibilities: Volunteers are needed to distribute food to families and individuals in need of food assistance. This will involve collecting information from individuals, bagging food, distribution food, and helping with traffic control to ensure the distribution runs smoothly. Pack Kits with Lucky Duck Foundation
The Lucky Duck Food and Water Initiative has distributed over 1.4 million meals to San Diego’s unsheltered neighbors since May 2020. Volunteers help pack, sort, and load food and water for homeless outreach teams to distribute throughout San Diego County. Volunteers also sort and distribute items like face shields, masks, hygiene kits, EMPWR Coats, and clothing. Volunteers are critical to making the program happen, so please consider signing up! Volunteer bagging shifts take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00-3:00pm at the San Diego Rescue Mission Warehouse (212 East 26th Street, National City, CA 91950). Note: though it is most helpful if you can volunteer for 3 hours, you do not need to sign up for all 3 hours, you can volunteer in 1-hour increments. Distribute Care Packages at MCRD San Diego with Operation Gratitude
Join Operation Gratitude in San Diego every Thursday to distribute Care Packages to newest Marines to thank them as they begin their Military service. These Care Packages will offer a small reminder to service members that Americans across the nation support them and appreciate their service and sacrifice. We’ve Got Your Back – Fresh Produce Distribution
This is a great volunteer opportunity that occurs every Friday for individuals and groups wanting to be hands-on with helping the community and team collaboration. Each week, their We've Got Your Back families are able to receive fresh food and essential items to support their families through our drive-thru distribution. You will help to facilitate a food distribution event for approximately 200 to 250 families. This includes preparing stations and helping to distribute 50 to 80 pounds of fresh food into the cars of families in the We've Got Your Back program. Their staff will provide instructions before the event begins on what will be giving out to their families that attend, as well as the amount per station. Transport Food for the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry
The Transportation Team transports the loaded grocery bags from the packing site at Temple Beth Hillel to the food distribution site at First Christian Church. The entire process of transporting 150 to 200 pre-packed bags takes about one hour. Bags are transported in Pantry owned vehicles. Learn About Local Animals with the Bolsa Chica Conservancy
Join the Bolsa Chica Conservancy at their weekly Live Animal Feedings to witness firsthand the feeding behavior of California native animals! If you're looking to get out of the house and learn about local animals, join them in person for their weekly live animal feeding presentation! Here you will be able to learn more about the animals at theie Interpretive Center, including snakes, sharks, crabs, and much more! During the feeding, they will cover topics like feeding habits and the general biology and anatomy of reptiles and marine animals! This is a free event but donations are always welcome to help with the cost of caring for and feeding our animals. They hope to see you there! Big Sunday's annual Field Trip Friday's are back and ready to hit you with a summer of fun! We invite lots of people of all ages, from all walks of life, for a 2-hour harbor cruise. Guests include individuals, families, corporate groups, faith groups. Plus nice folks from group homes, hospitals, shelters – some of whom have never been on a boat before!
All participants are asked just one thing: to meet at least one new person. Then, we all just enjoy each other’s company. Along the way we'll enjoy coffee, juice, and awesome snacks while watching the sea lions take in some sun.
Sign up below for the cruise leaving from Shoreline Village in Long Beach: Friday July 21st. This cruise leaves promptly at 10 am and returns at 12 pm. Please sure to be there before 10am! We would hate for you to miss the cruise! (And everyone’s welcome!)
