Empower the Youth of the Child Care Resource Center By Donating Books

Literacy empowers and you have a chance to do your part! On Saturday, June 9th CCRC will be on hand to receive your book donations from 10 am – 1 pm at their Headquarters location! If you’re looking to clear up space and give the gift of reading, they will happily accept new, or gently used, children’s books (up to age 13). All books received will be distributed back to the children in CCRC's San Fernando Valley community’s children. Please Note: Unfortunately cannot accept dictionaries, encyclopedias, teaching materials, magazines, etc. Don't have any books but still want to make a differece? Make a tax deductible donation! Get Involved at the Child Care Resource Center’s Community Volunteer Day

Get involved with CCRC! They are hosting a CCRC Community Volunteer Day on Saturday, June 9th, from 10 am to 1 pm at Van Nuys Warehouse at 15126 Raymer Street, Van Nuys, CA 91405! Sign up today and you’ll have the chance to help your community by participating in activities such as: organizing books, building bookshelves and wrapping gifts. They have a limited number of spots available! Invite your friends and register today! Can’t attend but still want to give back? There’s plenty to do! Drop off new or gently used children's books at their Chatsworth office! You can drop them off at the office throughout the week or at the CCRC Book Drop Off on June 9th from 10 am - 1 pm. Donate Back-to-School Items for Alexandria House

For the month of July, Alexandria House is hosting a Back-to-School drive to collect school supplies for the children they serve. Their wishlist includes: pencils (No. 2 & mechanical), pens (all colors), graphing paper & notebook, lined paper (college-ruled preferred), plastic folders & dividers, scissors (kids-sized), rulers & protractors, glue (sticks & liquid), highlighters, colored pencils & crayons, calculators (regular & scientific), mini-staplers, white-out (liquid & tape), post-its, backpacks & lunch boxes, mini hand-sanitizers, erasers: pencil-top & regular, pencil pouches, 1-inch binders, index cards: colors & white, lined, poster boards (white), reusable water bottles, dry-erase board spray cleaner, markers: thin & thick, permanent, washable, and dry-erase, notebooks: single & 3-subject, spiral-bound and composition. Donate Much Needed Summer Camp Essentials to Thomas A. Edison Middle School

LAUSD-Thomas A. Edison Middle School is hosting a Summer camp for at-risk youth. They serve a largely immigrant population with a high unemployment rate, many of their students stay home for the summer. Their goal is to provide 2 summer camps, a week long each, to provide enrichment, leadership, and finish off with a field trip. Summer Camp is scheduled to take place during the month of July. So they are seeking donations like: school supplies, art supplies (lots of them), office supplies, gift cards, bus transportation sponsorship, and healthy snacks. Drop off location will be at the Thomas A. Edison Middle School in the main office (Ask for Estephania Vazquez). They are looking for volunteers who have a specialized skill in the arts or other teaching skills that they can offer the 7th grade students. Students from college are encouraged to volunteer. Every committed volunteer will be asked to facilitate a 1 hour activity. Sports volunteers are also welcomed! Office supplies they will need are color pencils, pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, art supplies for the arts and crafts activities, and snacks.

Support LAUSD-Thomas A. Edison Middle School’s Adopt a Family Program

The Adopt a Family program is designed to support 50 of the most in need families receive basic needs for their kids. Edison has over 1300 students; 100% qualify for free lunch. Edison Middle School is more than an educational institution in their community; it serves as a hub for resources for students and their families. As a community school, one of their values is to assist the families with their everyday needs. They serve a largely immigrant population with a high unemployment rate, many of the students lack the basic needs such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, food, and school uniform. This event is from July 23rd-August 30th, 2018. Donations of clothing, shoes, school uniform, food vouchers, gift cards, school supplies, backpacks are needed. The support of the community is key in school activities and also a way that you can continue helping their students and families in their social and academics. Not only will your contribution be publicly recognized by the school, but this will also be a great opportunity for you to engage with the Edison community! Drop off location will be Thomas A. LightHouse Social Service Centers is planning a back to school event to serve at least 100 children of age in LightHouse SSC programs. They will also make food bags for parents. Items needed will be backpacks, pencils, folders, paper, markers, shoes, hats, socks.
